Week 5.
Player Warm Ups:
Set up agility lines for players using 3 -4 cones. These lines should be 8-10 ft apart to ensure players have appropriate spacing.
Boys: 1 - 2 players on each line.
Girls: 3 - 4 players on each line.
Players should engage in the following warm up exercises:
Shuffles
High knees
Knee hops
Warmups 2.0 ?
Coaches should now drop cones on the floor using 2 color and play a reaction/relay game with players.
Ex 1 : Coaches should drop these cones and call a color to see which player is able to pick up cones first.
Ex 2: Coaches should spread out 8-10 cones and call a number once players start to see who can pick up the number mentioned by coach first.
Dribbling ?
Using the same format of warm up cones. Coaches can now add 2-3 more cones to each line to now have players dribbling through 5-6 cones.
Right Foot Dribbling
Left Foot Dribbling
Toe Rolls
Toe Taps
Bell Taps
Coaches Job: To introduce a bonus dribbling technique for kids.
Dribbling 2.0?
Coaches can introduce a game that involves players executing the dribbling techniques mentioned.
Perhaps an advanced “Sharks and Nanos” where we assign 2 defenders the role of having to steal the ball. Once we begin coaches job is to inform players which dribbling technique they are allowed to use during the game. This will help kids get a more realistic feel for adjusting themselves in a real game situation depending on the dribbling technique.
Long Passes ?
Please set up properly separated passing lines for players. Pair players of in groups of twos and introduce the concept of “looking long/switching field” through long passes.
Introduce players to 2 different type of passing techniques before engaging into your “team practices or games”.
Week 6.
Player Warm Ups:
Coaches are to set up warm up a large enough square using jumbo cones 6 ft-8ft apart using same colored cones evenly spread out. Spread each square out properly to give each group an even space. Around the square using whistle or clap ask players to:
Shuffle around square keeping distance.
light jog - medium paced jog keep distance.
Every time you blow whistle or clap players must find the open cone in their square.
As players are warming up coaches should now place 2 separate colored cones at each opposite corner of the player square.
Ex: Square 1 should have blue and green cone on opposite side. Square 2 should have blue and green on the opposite side.
Please break the players up into teams of 2 still maintaining your 4 players to a square however now 2 players are in the middle and 2 players are on the outside. The two players on outside are Team A & Team B both starting on opposite sides of the square. The objective is when you blow your whistle players A must try to catch player B and when you call a color both players must try to be the first on this color.
Player Dribbling ?
Using the same set up for the warm ups - 4 players to a square we ask that you now introduce a ball and have Team A versus Team B dribble around the square waiting for your command.
Ex: Coach blows whistle and players begin to dribble. When coach calls a color players are to dribble too that color without breaking the square.
Introduce the following dribbling techniques in this warmup:
Laced dribbling - inside/outside foot turns
Rolls - inside/outside foot turns.
Player Passing 1/2 touches ?
Using the same warm up set up with 4 players to a square we ask for the following passes:
Inside foot passes using 2 touches.
Outside foot passes using 2 touches
One touch passes.
Passing 3 vs 1?
Coaches should now appoint:
Defender - player in the model
3 Outside players - players to keep possession.
Please emphasize the purpose of the open cone and the movements from players closest to this open cone. To start off we’d like players on the cones maintaining the square shape and 10 minutes in the players can progress into moving freely in the space with 2 touches max.
Game Time ?
Please set up small sided games for kids to play. 3vs3 or 4vs4.
Week 6.5
Player Warm Ups:
Coaches are to set up warm up lines using same colored cones evenly spread out. We ask that you use 5 cones for each group. No more than 3 kids on each “station/line”. Please first demonstrate the following:
Shuffles
Up down sprints in between cones.
One legged hops over cones.
Two legged hops over cones.
Side ways high knees over cones.
This can also easily transition into a relay race of some sort with players repeating the same SAQ movement through the cones now trying to be the first in each group to receive ball.
Coaches are two place a ball 12ft away from each line. So for every 2 SAQ lines there should be one ball. Repeating the same warm up exercises coaches are to use their whistle and observe players as they
Ex: Shuffle through cones & try to get the ball first before their opponent.
Player Passing 1 ?
Using the same warm up set up players now have to repeat same SAQ movements and work on the following:
Inside foot passes using 2 touches.
Inside foot passes using 1 touch.
Players doing the SAQ motions are receiving the ball and we should appoint one player the role of making the passes. Please alternate the player making passes 2-3 times.
Player Passing 2 ?
Players now will be separated by 2 cones 10 - 12ft apart. 2-3 players are on one side of the cones and only one player is on the other cones. Both lines of players should be facing each other. The line with majority of players will be the group to start off with the ball. To introduce the concept of passing and moving we ask that player A pass the ball to player B “and simply follow their passes. Let’s continue this back and forth passing until the entire group gets it.
Once ready players who are starting off on cone by themself “Player B” will be asked to execute a particular “first touch using a specific part of his/her foot”
Ex: Player A passes to player B and coach asks for outside foot touch to the right. All players should use outside part of right foot to take touch around the cone and pass it back to player waiting on line.
Ex: Player A passes to player B and coach asks for inside the foot touch to the right. Coach can now demonstrate that player can use either Left foot inside the foot to receive and direct the pass to the left side of cone before passing it back to player waiting.
Ex: Player A passes to player B and coach asks for roll touches to either side. Player is expected to step on the ball roll it to either side (L or R cone) before passing it back to their team mate waiting.
Passing 2 vs 1?
Coaches should now appoint:
Defender - player who is responsible for playing in the balls
Attacking player - whose main role is to receive the ball from player who is in possession.
Separated on 2 sides of the field we have our Defender and Attacker on one side of the field. Our assigned defender is playing the ball into the receiving player whose job is to take a touch using any part of foot and find the Attacking player. If the ball goes out or is intercepted by the defender we rotate the players receiving it. Attacking player and defenders should only be rotated every 2-3 minutes.
How do players get a point ?
The player receiving the ball which is always played in by the defender must pass this ball into the Attacking player waiting to receive the ball.
Game Time ?
Please set up small sided games for kids to play. 3vs3 or 4vs4.
